Notable Dates in MO/Cannabis History and How to Celebrate Them

The legalization of everyone’s favorite smokable herb has boomed medicinally and recreationally across the United States over the past few years due to an increased focus on states’ rights in legislation, significant growth in voter turnout, and taxation revenue. On November 6, 2018, Missouri voters passed the second amendment of the state constitution, with a majority rule of 65% according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, which allowed the medical use of cannabis for qualifying patients. Four years later, on November 8, 2022, the addition of the third amendment passed recreational possession and consumption.

These dates add to the lineup of milestones bringing cannabis to the forefront of recent history.

Others to note include National CBD Day, celebrated on August 8th, National Hemp Day on February 4th, and July 10th, known as Dab Day. National CBD Day came into existence when the Farm Bill was passed in 2018, decriminalizing all hemp products federally. CBD MD wanted to raise awareness of the potential uses of cannabidiol, a cannabis product both benign and non-intoxicating, so they applied to the National Day Calendar. Since the inaugural National CBD Day, cannabidiol products have seen a considerable decrease in price and surge in distribution, making them more accessible and a popular selection. CBD MD also brought National Hemp Day to life shortly after in 2019, as a further reflection of the benefits of products crafted from the cannabis plant, and in favor of the resurgence of the hemp fiber industry.

Hemp-based wellness products continue to flourish, expanding rapidly following the establishment of the holiday. MJ Biz Daily credits 7/10, or Dab Day, to be the third highest-grossing sales period of the year, especially in states which have longstanding legislature supporting the growth and consumption of cannabis, like California. Dab Day is dedicated to consumers who prefer cannabis concentrates such as wax, shatter, and resin. Its origin of 7/10 was derived from the word “oil” if viewed upside down. Dab Day has quickly become one of the more popularly celebrated cannabis holidays since its appearance in smoking culture.

How can you celebrate cannabis on these dates?

One may wish to relax with their favorite CBD beverage or baked good. Another may try a new type of hemp-based wellness product, or enjoy a tasty dab. There are more effective ways, however, to actively observe through advocacy. Engage with your local representatives in legislature, and sing the praises. Make it known that promoting the legality of cannabis, cannabidiol, and hemp is a win for everyone. Take time to educate yourself, and spread the wealth of educational resources. Visit your local dispensaries and make a donation.
